Something people often want to do is to select text and apply a URL to the selection. For years we have enabled the insert→hyperlink dialog’s able to capturing a selected URL from the clipboard and pre-populate this target automatically when the dialog is launched.
However – a new, even easier feature that is becoming standard across text editors just landed in Collabora Online to made this workflow very much easier. When pasting over a text selection, we first check the clipboard to see if it contains only a simple http[s] URL, and in this case – instead of replacing the selected text with the URL, we changes that text into a hyperlink to this new URL target. So you would copy https://collaboraonline.github.io/ and paste it over “The Place to Be” and get a nice link like this: “The Place to Be”.
